چکیده

Background Gestational trophoblastic disease is a group of benign and malignant entities, where the hydatidiform mole is the most common, and can be divided into complete hydatidiform mole and partial hydatidiform mole. However, the histological criteria are still questionable and also, histologic evaluation alone is prone to great interobserver variability. In this way, inmunohistochemical analysis for p57 kip2 may be useful to aid in the diagnosis and classification of hydatidiform moles, with management and prognostic implications. p57 is the protein product of the paternally imprinted but maternally expressed gene CDKN1C. Because complete hydatidiform mole lack a maternal genomic component, an absence of p57 staining is specific for this pathology. This study looking for demonstrates the p57 kip2 immunohistochemistry as a technique useful in the differentiation between partial and complete hydatidiform mole.

Diagnosis of hydatidiform moles using p57 immunohistochemistry and HER2 fluorescent in situ hybridization.

Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) for HER2 performed on paraffin-embedded tissue samples and immunohistochemical analysis for p57 may be useful ancillary studies to aid in the diagnosis and classification of hydatidiform moles (HMs). HER2 FISH was validated against 24 paraffin-embedded sections of HMs and hydropic abortions and showed an 85% concordance rate. A morphologic assessment bas...

Combination of Immunohistochemistry and Ploidy Analysis to Assist Histopathological Diagnosis of Molar Diseases

BACKGROUND Differential diagnosis between hydropic abortion, partial mole and complete mole is still a challenge for pathologists but really important for patient management. MATERIAL AND METHOD In this study, we have evaluated 111 products of conception from the first trimester. Histological analysis was made according to the main diagnostic histopathological features described in the litera...

The maternally transcribed gene p57(KIP2) (CDNK1C) is abnormally expressed in both androgenetic and biparental complete hydatidiform moles.

Hydatidiform mole (HM) is an abnormal gestation characterized by trophoblast hyperplasia and overgrowth of placental villi. The genetic basis in the vast majority of cases is an excess of paternal to maternal genomes, suggesting that global misexpression of imprinted genes is the common molecular mechanism underlying the genesis of this condition. Although most complete HM are androgenetic in o...

Abnormal villous morphology mimicking a hydatidiform mole associated with paternal trisomy of chromosomes 3,7,8 and unipaternal disomy of chromosome 11

BACKGROUND Pregnancies affected by non-molar chromosomal abnormality may sometimes demonstrate abnormal chorionic villous morphology that is similar to partial hydatidiform mole. Determination of the underlying aetiology may be difficult in such cases. CASE PRESENTATION This report describes a case referred to the regional trophoblastic disease unit as a possible hydatidiform mole that demons...

The Diagnosis of Choriocarcinoma in Molar Pregnancies: A Revised Approach in Clinical Testing

BACKGROUND Hydatidiform moles occur in approximately 1 in 1,500 pregnancies; however, early miscarriages or spontaneous abortions may not be correctly identified as molar pregnancies due to poor differentiation of chorionic villi. METHODS The current clinical testing algorithm used for the detection of hydatidiform moles uses a combination of morphological analysis and p57 immunostaining foll...
